Services of the Pee Dee Office
Emergency Food Pantry
Ministries of Catholic Charities of the Pee Dee Office
Provide individuals and families in need with food from our pantry. Some of the pantry items are provided by the U.S.D.A. other items are purchased from the Lowcountry Food Bank.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) prohibits discrimination in all its programs and activities on the basis of race, color, national origin, age, disability, and where applicable, sex, marital status, familial status, parental status, religion, sexual orientation, genetic information, political beliefs, reprisal, or because all or a part of an individual's income is derived from any public assistance program.
Voucher Assistance (when available)
Gas or Food vouchers are given as requested to clients needing to get to the doctor, or needing to go to Charleston MUSC or if clients have a special diet needed to purchase items from a grocery store or Wal-Mart. We also provide assistance with bus transportation on a per need basis.
Direct Financial Assistance
Financial Assistance is provided to families in crisis. We receive about 20 calls per day from individuals and families needing help with rent, utilities, doctors' visits, prescriptions, birth certificates, emergency shelter, text books, transportation, or counseling. This assistance comes directly from our Catholic Charities general fund or directly from donations. These funds are distributed on a case by case basis and is always based on our financial means at the time.
Toiletry kits for men and women are put together by a volunteer to give out to the poor. Catholic Charities purchases the items in the kits.
Trak phones with minutes are purchased and provided to domestic violent victims and to the elderly living alone. These phones and minutes are purchased by Catholic Charities and are also donated by individuals.
Ongoing Case Management/Referrals
Ongoing case management services are provided to all ongoing clients. We sit with the client and assist them in forming personal goals and list the necessary steps to achieve the goals. This is provided to clients in writing and a follow-up appointment is scheduled. Referrals and individual resources are provided to each client to assist them in meeting their needs.
Senior Care Management Services
The Senior Care Management Service is broad and comprehensive. These services are available to individuals, families, and those responsible for assisting them. The program provides: case management, advocacy on your behalf, comprehensive assessment to create an individualized care plan, referral and coordination of services in all areas of your life, close collaboration with other service providers to coordinate and monitor care, and re-evaluation of service on a regular basis.

We provide new baby kits to new mothers that include new outfits for the baby, diapers, bibs, towels, and usually a homemade baby blanket. These are donated when the local Catholic Churches have their "birthday for Jesus" parties. Our baby blankets are donated by "Stitches from the Heart" a national program as well as Linus Blankets, another national program as well as from our own Knit Wits. We also give away new infant and toddler car seats on a monthly basis and are given out as needed. We also have a children's clothes closet. The clothing donations that we are not able to use, we donate to local charities.
Catholic Charities of the Pee Dee is the only agency that does long term case management for disaster victims. This ministry provides guidance and resources to the Catholic Churches in the Pee Dee Deanery. We review each parishes disaster plan, meet with parish disaster representatives and assist them in identifying parishioners in the parish who need assistance in evacuating or admissions to a special needs shelter.
